CHANDLER-MTN. POINTE PREVIEW
September 22, 2011 by Kevin Ray, AZPreps365
After 3 shutouts to start the season the Chandler Wolves and their defense were hit with a big dose of reality last week when the Basha Bears hung 58 points on the board to go along with 640yards of total offense. The Wolves get a chance to redeem themselves this week when they host a Mtn. Pointe Pride team that’s still searching for an identity. But what you have to know about any Norris Vaughn coached team is that what they may lack in firepower or playmakers they always make up for in fight.
Chandler possesses a lethal offense that did all they could to keep their club in last week’s loss to Basha by racking up 41 points of their own. It’s an offense that has the ability to spread the wealth around and can put all kinds of pressure on opposing defenses. From QB Daryl Garrettson to WR Lloyd Mills & RB Paul Perkins the Wolves have the ability to hit you in a number of different ways. The real test tonite may be for this Wolves defense to see if they’ve moved on past last week’s humbling performance to the Bears.
The Pride meanwhile are a little dinged up and have made a QB change going into the game with Caleb Buck. Buck did start last week against Buena which allowed him to get comfortable against a less talented team. While moving Buck to QB, Vaughn shifted Dillon Johnson back to the backfield. Johnson began the season at QB after ultra-talented Kyle Faunce departed as a result of his family moving out of state. Sophomore WR Jalen Brown and Junior RB will be called upon to help carry some of the load in the Pride offensive attack under Buck.
We’ve reached the midpoint of the season already if you can believe that, so tonites game carries some added weight as the real jockeying begins for playoff positions.
