Phoenix Christian bounces back to beat Tempe Prep, 58-37

Phoenix Christian tuned out a noisy crowd and quieted Tempe Prep Friday.
The hostile crowd was alive for senior night and the Knights fed off the energy to take a 9-8 lead into the second quarter.
A halftime talk by coach Mykael Wright turned the game around, however, and produced a 58-37 victory.
“So, we just talked about executing and playing our game and not getting too caught up in the crowd noise,” said Wright. “I just told my guys as long as we did what we were supposed to do, we’d be okay.
The Cougars came out with solid defense and started to finish their shots on offense.
Junior captain Marcus Gomez was a key player putting up 27 points. He was a rebound machine and 7 for 10 with his free throws. Gomez stayed consistent throughout the night keeping his teammates calm.
“Cause whenever we get down on defense and they start scoring on us it translates over to offense and then we don’t score the points we need to win the game,” said Gomez
Wright challenged Gomez to have 30 points and 15 rebounds. He finished with 27 points and 13 rebounds.
Senior Devin Andreas was another key player adding four points with his unselfish play and solid defense.
“I just want to get my teammates more involved so we can get a team W and not a selfish W,” said Andreas
The Cougars take on Scottsdale Prep Monday away.
“I’m typically pretty confident with my guys, I feel like as long as we do what we’re supposed to do I feel like we’ll be happy after the game,” said Wright.
