It was a clean sweep for Chinle teams as the Wildcats varsity chalked up victories over the Wingate (New Mexico) Bears in an interstate prep basketball game at Chinle High School gymnasium on Tuesday night.

Chinle led from start to finish as the Lady Wildcats posted a 64-32 win over Wingate.

Chinle completed its four game homestand, finishing with three victories against one loss. Chinle resumes 3A North Region action this Friday, traveling to Fort Defiance to play the Window Rock Fighting Scouts.

Chinle is 12-5 overall. Window Rock is 11-6 overall. Tipoff at the Events Center is scheduled for 6 p.m.

In the boy's contest, Chinle dropped Wingate, 53-34. The Wildcats won all four of its games against no defeats at home.

Leading into Friday's 3A North Region contest at Window Rock, Chinle is 18-4 overall. Window Rock is 7-7 overall.

Girls

Chinle 64, Wingate 32

Chinle raced out to a commanding 18-6 lead, when the first quarter expired. The Lady Wildcats tallied 25 points, while Wingate hit for 12. Chinle held a 43-18 lead at halftime.

Chinle's defense stymied Wingate in the third quarter, containing the Lady Bears to four points. The Lady Wildcats netted 25 points. When the third period ended, Chinle held a 56-22 lead. The Lady Bears tallied 10 points to the Lady Wildcats' eight points during the fourth quarter.

Chinle head coach Francine McCurtain said the Lady Wildcats and Lady Bears both played a great game to the end.

"The Lady Wildcats led the entire game," McCurtain said. "They hustled very well tonight. There was great communication and team work. I was happy the girls worked together and came out on top. Now to look forward to Window Rock on Friday."

Aisha Ashley tallied 12 points to pace Chinle. Stacey Begay added 11 points and Brandii Clah netted 10 points for the Lady Wildcats.

Boys

Chinle 53, Wingate 34

Chinle had a slow start as Wingate held a 14-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. Chinle's defense clamped down on Wingate's offense in the second quarter. The Wildcat defense forced turnovers and Wingate could manage three points. The Wildcats had a hot hand, netting 20 points. At halftime, Chinle took a 33-17 lead.

The tempo of the game slowed down in the third quarter. Chinle and Wingate both canned 11 points. The Wildcats led 44-28 when the third quarter expired. The Wildcats outscored the Bears, 9-6, in the fourth frame.

Chinle head coach Raul Mendoza said it took some time for the Wildcats to get untracked.

"We started the game with a slow start," Mendoza said. "In the second quarter, Curtis Begay took control of the game by scoring 12 of his 25 points, that he had for the game. He played an outstanding game by getting a number  defensive rebounds and pushed the ball up the floor that led to easy baskets for his teammates. Jason John also came up big on both ends of the court as well. I feel that the team came up to meet the challenge by coming together on both ends of the court."
