The Deer Valley Skyhawks remain perfect on the season as they ran past the Horizon Huskies 42-24 last Friday night in a Division II, non-section game in Glendale. Senior running back Trae Armstrong had 30 carries for 198 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Skyhawks, who improved to 4-and-0 on the season. Quarterback Auston Hillman added 112 yards on five carries, including an 80-yard TD run with 1:03 to go in the first half that put Deer Valley on top 21-7. Hillman also finished 5-of-8 for 102 yards and an interception.
Deer Valley, now ranked third in Division II and first in Section I, hosts Millennium this coming Friday. The Tigers, ranked 12th in Division II and fourth in Section I, are 3-and-1 on the year and are coming off a 63-0 rout of La Joya. Millennium's only loss was to undefeated Centennial.
Ryan Neel returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown with 7:45 to in the fourth quarter for Horizon, which fell to 2-and-2. Armstrong fumbled the ensuing kickoff and the Huskies punched it in just 20 seconds later to make it 35-24 with 7:25 left. Deer Valley answered, however, with a 12-play, 80-yard drive that was capped off with Armstrong's third TD of the contest. Kyle Woods finished 16-of-31 for 159 yards and a TD. He also ran for 50 yards and a score for Horizon.
The Huskies will look to rebound this coming Friday as they host Pinnacle for homecoming. Pinnacle enters the tilt at 4-and-0 and is coming off a 41-20 home win over North Canyon.
