It was revenge for Window Rock's girl's and boy's basketball teams.

Last month during the first game of the season, Holbrook girl's and boy's posted a victory over the Scouts in Tony Munoz Gymnasium at Holbrook. In the first matchup, Holbrook defeated Window Rock, 59-41, in the girl's contest. The Roadrunners beat the Fighting Scouts, 52-43, in the initial boy's contest.

Window Rock girl's and boy's teams turned the tables on Holbrook before a sparse crowd in the Events Center in Fort Defiance on Friday night.

The Lady Scouts chalked up a 56-39 victory over the Lady Roadrunners in the girl's contest. Utilizing a strong start in the first quarter, the Fighting Scouts garnered a 56-45 win over the Roadrunners in the boy's game.

Girls

Window Rock 56, Holbrook 39

Window Rock and Holbrook exchanged baskets during the initial three minutes in the first quarter. The Lady Roadrunners took the largest lead of the first period, 9-5, when junior Madison Chappell knocked down a basket with 47 seconds remaining.

Lady Scouts' senior Asia James answered with a basket from the perimeter. Holbrook's Tristen Ambrose canned a pair of free throws, lifting the Lady Roadrunners to an 11-7 lead. Sonja Ayze pumped in a three-point buzzer-beater, bringing the Lady Scouts within one point, 11-10, as the first quarter ended.

Holbrook's Chappell hit back-to-back baskets, giving the Lady Roadrunners a 15-10 lead. Window Rock battled back. Window Rock junior Jana Solee canned a basket and James added a trey to tie the game at 15-15 with 5:10 remaining in the second quarter.

Down by one point, Window Rock's Shinezbi Teller knocked down a three-pointer and Rachel Smiley added a basket, as the Lady Scouts took a 24-20 lead with 2:27 left.

Lady Scouts' Bayle Talkalai netted back-to-back baskets, giving Window Rock a 28-22 lead with 57 seconds remaining to halftime. Holbrook's Chappell could muster one free throw at four attempts in the final 17 seconds when she was fouled twice. Window Rock held a 28-23 halftime advantage.

The tempo of the game slowed down in the third quarter.

Window Rock's Solee hit a pair of charity shots to begin the third quarter. The Lady Roadrunners were within three points, when Chappell scored inside the paint.

Window Rock scored six unanswered points, four points by Teller and a basket by Halaya Shirley, for a 36-27 lead with 1:55 left. With 13 seconds left in the third frame, Solee netted a basket to give Window Rock a 38-31 lead when the third period expired.

The Lady Scouts outscored the Lady Roadrunners, 5-2, to begin the fourth quarter for a 43-33 lead. A basket by Chappell brought Holbrook within six points, 43-37, with 4:51 left.

Window Rock rallied, going on an 11-0 run and taking a 54-37 lead. Both teams each scored a basket as the game ended.

Asia James led Window Rock with 18 points. Jana Solee canned 11 points and Shinezbi Teller added nine points for the Lady Scouts.

Window Rock, 7-4, faces Verrado, of Buckeye, Arizona, in the Diamond Bracket in the first round of the 2018 Chandler Prep Girl's Basketball New Year's Classic in Chandler, Arizona. The Lady Scouts will play its first game in Chandler/Gilbert Community College gymnasium at 5:30 p.m. on December 27.

"We came out flat in the first quarter and we stayed flat throughout the game," said Holbrook head coach Greg Perkins. "We weren't ready to play. Since the beginning of the season, we haven't played a bad game. Tonight, we played a bad game. It's good we played a bad game in a non-region game. We have a tough 3A East Region schedule next month, after the Chandler Prep Tournament next week."

Holbrook, 9-3. take on Phoenix St. Mary's in the Diamond Bracket in the opening round of the 2018 Chandler Prep Girl's Basketball New Myear's Classic in Chandler, Arizona. The Holbrook / St. Mary's contest is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Chandler/Gilbert Community College gymnasium on December 27.

The tournament is scheduled for December 27-29 at various gymnasiums near Chandler. The girl's tournament features 80 teams and five divisions. The boy's bracket has 16 teams and one division.

Boys

Window Rock 56, Holbrook 45

Window Rock raced out to a 10-point first quarter lead, 13-3, and never squandered the lead en route to its 11-point victory, 56-45.

The Fighting Scouts got four points from Cauy Silversmith, a basket by Burk Williams and a free throw from Kendal Roanhorse to take a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

With 4:00 remaining, Holbrook got on the scoreboard, on a basket by Josiah Freddie.

Window Rock scored  four points, taking an 11-2 lead. Freddie hit the front end of a two shot free throw for the Roadrunners' remaining points of the first quarter. Trevor Herbert canned a basket, as Window Rock took a 13-3 lead, when the opening period ended.

The Fighting Scouts started the second quarter similiar to its first period. Window Rock outscored Holbrook, 8-5, to take a 21-8 lead with 4:40 left.

Ethan Bahe and Anthony Nelson knocked down back-to-bsck baskets as Holbrook cut Window Rock's lead to 11 points, 23-12.

Window Rock's Silversmith pumped in a three-pointer and added a basket, while Fighting Scouts teammate Trevor Herbert knocked down a trey with 15 seconds left. The Fighting Scouts held a 31-17 halftime lead.

Holbrook battled back in the third quarter. Led by Freddie, Tynen Thomas and Blayne Nelson, the Roadrunners stormed back. During its rally, Freddie canned six points, Thomas added four points and Nelson scored a three-points, bringing Holbrook within four points, 34-30, with 2:30 left.

Holbrook's Freddie tallied his team's final two points of the third quarter. Window Rock countered as Herbert and Roanhorse each scored two points apiece for a 38-32 lead when the stanza ended.

The tempo of the game stepped up in the fourth quarter.

The Fighting Scouts outscored the Roadrunners, 8-5, during the opening three minutes of the final quarter. Window Rock increased its lead to 50-39, when Adrian Destea hit a basket and Derian Long knocked down a pair of charity shots with 3:35 left.

Window Rock's Marian Ynzunza, Silversmith and Long combined for six points to give the Fighting Scouts a 56-43 lead with over one minute left in the game. Thomas scored Holbrook's final two points of the game.

Cauy Silversmith canned 20 points and Trevor Herbert added 12 points for Window Rock.

Window Rock, 8-5, is scheduled to participate in the Gallup Invitational in Gallup, New Mexico, January 3-5. The Fighting Scouts face host Gallup Bengals on January 3 at 7:30 p.m.

"We missed too many easy shots, including missing layups, which we should have made," said Holbrook head coach Delmar Johnson. "We had a slow start. Our slow start was due to not ready to play. We committed turnovers and they capitalized. This was a good game for us. What really counts is our 3A East Region games, which we begin play on January 8 against Payson."

Johnson added, "We have to play with confidence and continue to improve. We're only going to get better."

Holbrook, 6-9. will host the Payson Longhorns in 3A East Region contest on January 8 at 7:30 p.m. for its next game.
