Window Rock posted a victory over Many Farms in girls and boys basketball action at Many Farms on Wednesday night.

Window Rock outpointed Many Farms in all four quarters to take home a 56-40 freedom game win. The Lady Scouts and the Lady Lobos played uptempo in the first quarter. Window Rock held a 16-14 lead in the first quarter. Window Rock increased its lead to seven points, 30-23 at the end of the first half.

The Lady Scouts outscored the Lady Lobos by four points, 10-6, in the third quarter to stretch its lead to 40-29 at the end of the third quarter. Window Rock and Many Farms stepped up offensively in the fourth quarter. The Lady Scouts tallied 16 points, while the Lady Lobos netted 11 points.

Many Farms head coach Tracy Todecheene said the Lady Lobos played hard from start to finish.

"The girls are improving every time we hit the floor, in practice and in games," Todecheene said. "I knew Window Rock would be a challenge. The girls are learning to play together as a team. The girls are learning my coaching philosophy. The girls are learning to play strong defense and solid offense. The girls learned a lot from the game tonight. Our goal is to improve. The girls have the ability and talent to be a solid team."

Todecheene said the Lady Lobos had a different coach, with a different coaching philosophy.

"I am back as Many Farms' girls head coach," Todecheene said. "I was Many Farms' boys head coach the past few years. We want to be competitive."

Todecheene said the Lady Lobos played multiple defense against Window Rock.

"We played 2 - 3 zone, 3 - 2 zone and played some man defense tonight," Todecheene said. "Our man defense stifled Window Rock in the fourth quarter. We didn't win tonight .... I saw positive things tonight. The girls can play. They showed that tonight. The girls need to continue moving forward."

Quandinna Begay led Many Farms offensively, pouring in 12 points.

Many Farms travels to Whiteriver, Arizona this Saturday, facing the Alchesay Lady Falcons in a 2A North Region contest at 6 p.m.

Window Rock were paced by Asia James with 13 points and Baylee Talkalai with 10 points.

Window Rock returns to the Events Center in Fort Defiance tonight, entertaining the Holbrook Lady Roadrunners in a freedom game at 6 p.m.

Boys

Window Rock 65, Many Farms 46

Many Farms led for three quarters, before the Lobos got tired and ran out of gas, losing to Window Rock, 65-46, in a freedom game, played in Many Farms.

"The guys gassed out in the fourth quarter," said Many Farms head coach Brandon Tso. "We led for three quarters. It was a tough loss. The guys learned tonight that they have the ability and talent to play basketball. The guys were disciplined on the floor tonight. The guys played together and played organized. I hope the guys will continue playing well and improving."

Tso said the Lobos are young and inexperienced. Tso said the guys are learning his coaching philosophy.

"The guys improved and it is an 180-degree turnaround since the first day of practice," Tso said. "We want to be competitive in the 2A North Region. We have the capability to be a contender in our region. Our region is challenging and there are good teams in our region. We have the ability and talent."

Many Farms led at the end of the first quarter, 10-8. The Lobos extended its lead to three points, 29-26, at the end of the first half.

The Lobos continue to lead when the third quarter expired, 40-36, after Many Farms outscored Window Rock, 11-10. The fourth quarter was a totally different story. Window Rock played uptempo, shooting the ball with confidence. The Fighting Scouts scorched the cords for 29 points. Many Farms managed six points.

Corbin Begay tallied 23 points to pace Many Farms. Tee Jaye Gene added 11 points and Andrew Tso netted five points for Many Farms.

Many Farms will play the Alchesay Falcons in Whiteriver, Arizona for a 2A North Region game this Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Window Rock hosts the Holbrook Roadrunners in a freedom game in the Events Center in Fort Defiance tonight at 7:30 p.m.
