High school swim season is over and it’s time for the Aztec swimmers to hang up their swimsuits, but for many this isn’t the case at all. Just when you thought they had had enough of that prune-like skin and those swimsuit tans, they decided they’re not quite ready to get out of the water yet.

In fact, it seems as if freshman Samantha Arredondo never leaves the pool.

Upon being asked what’s next since high school swim is over, the young swimmer said, “I’ll be swimming for my club, and we’ll have some meets and we’ll have club state.”

So, when Arredondo is not swimming for Corona del Sol, she’s swimming for her club team, making it so that she swims year-round.

“It won’t be the same as high school, of course,” Arredondo said, “but it’ll prepare me for next high school season as well, and it’ll just make me better.”

Even senior Devyn Brown said, “I’m going to finish out the season for club swimming.”

But senior Roan Kelleher will be swapping out swimming for wrestling. The Aztec swimmer explained that swim isn’t even his first sport.

“I only did swim to get in shape for wrestling,” Kelleher said.

Even though he doesn’t intend to swim in college, senior Francisco Esparza explained the reason to keep swimming anyway was because he is a senior.

“I also want to end on a high,” Esparza said. “It’s my senior year, my last year, I got to finish strong.”
