#3 Northwest Christian completed its season-long domination over 3A opponents Saturday night with its fourth sweep of the 3A volleyball tournament.

The final victim in the title match was #5 Arizona College Prep as the Crusaders posted a 25-11, 25-18, 25-12 victory at Tempe High. Northwest Christian did not lose a match this season to a 3A opponent. It's lone power-ranking loss was to 2A champion Scottsdale Christian in four sets.

It's the first title for Northwest Christian (36-6) in volleyball since 2013 when it competed at the D-IV (2A) level. The Crusaders won their semifinal match earlier Saturday topping #2 Tuba City, 25-14, 25-15, 25-13. Arizona College Prep (22-7), getting a trophy for the first time in the sport, had a tougher go in its semifinal. The Knights rallied to beat #1 Snowflake, 18-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-21.

NWC proved from the get-go it was primed for the title. And it did so with a starting lineup that featured four sophomores, two juniors and one senior. The Crusaders jumped to an 8-1 lead in the opening set and busted it open when ACP pulled within 11-8. Three successive kills by sophomore McKenzie Wise, a transfer from Sunrise Mountain, helped restore the lead to double digits.

The second set got a little tricky toward the end as a 20-13 edge dipped to 20-17. NWC coach Jenna Hope called timeout and it restored order.

"I told them we needed to stay aggressive and be true to ourselves, that's how we play," Hope said.

Two kills by Wise an ace by setter Molly Kipp led to a seven-point advantage to close the set.

Any hope of ACP mounting a comeback was dashed quickly in the third. NWC bolted to a 10-0 lead via five kills by Wise and three aces from Kipp.

Wise finished with 23 kills and sophomore middle-hitter Reagan Hope added nine kills. Kipp registered 32 assists and libero Jadeyn Shaw led NWC in digs with 19.

ACP's win over Snowflake was a gut check with the Knights down a set and trailing in the second set 23-16 before rallying to win the second and even the match. It propelled them to a four-set win. ACP was led unofficially on the attack in the title match by Kelsey Burns and Julia Golichowski with six kills each.
