Tuba City Lady Warriors continue to roll in 3A North volleyball

With the regular season winding down, the Tuba City Lady Warriors are tops in the 3A North Region volleyball standings.

The Lady Warriors are currently 10-0 overall, more importantly 4-0 in region action. The Kayenta Monument Valley Lady Mustangs are 7-3 overall and 4-2 in region play. The Page Lady Sand Devils are 5-3 overall, 3-2 in league action. The Ganado Lady Hornets have won 8 and lost 6 overall and are 3-4 in region. The Chinle Lady Wildcats are 7-4 overall and 1-4 in region. The Window Rock Lady Scouts are 5-6 overall and 1-4 in regionj.

In the latest 3A statewide power rankings, Tuba City is ranked No. 3. Kayenta Monument Valley is ranked No. 8, while Page is ranked No. 10, Ganado sits at No. 18, followed by Chinle No. 19 and Window Rock No. 21.

Tuba City head coach Harlan Barlow said the Lady Warriors are learning and growing as the season progresses.

"Every game we are getting better," Barlow said. "(We) are learning our positions better and growing as a team as well. I feel like we just have to keep doing what we're doing every game, "grow ad learn" to keep getting better."

Barlow pointed out the there are several factors in the Lady Warriors' success.

"I feel like we are becoming more consistent at each rotation," he said. "I feel like our team chemistry is why we have been successful."

Barlow said as the regular season winds down, it is a goal to earn the top seed in the regional tournament.

"You would always want that first place seed, but in our region, it's tough," Barlow explained. "It could be anyone's game. You just have to be ready. The keys is to work  on your consistency, so you can be ready to play big games such as the 3A North Regional Tournament."

Leading Tuba City are junior outside hitter / middle hitter Jayda Chee; junior setter Gracie Henderson; junior outside hitter / middle hitter Camille Secatero; senior opposite Kyra Slim; freshman Kayelani Maiava; and senior libero Krishauna Riggs.

This year 3A schools will have a Conference Play-In bracket during the state tournament on October 30. The Conference Play-In games will feature teams finishing 9th through 24th in the statewide power rankings. All games begin at 6 p.m. at the high seed.

Survivors of the Conference Play-In advance into the Sweet 16 state tournament bracket. The first round games will be played at Camelback High School on November 2. The state quarterfinal games are set for Camelback High School on November 2. The state semifinal games will be played on November 3 at Camelback High School. The state championship game is scheduled for November 3 at North High School.

2A Little Colorado North Region

The Round Valley Lady Elks are 9-2 overall and 7-0 in 2A Little Colorado North Region. Round Valley is ranked No. 16.

Teams in the 2A Little Colorado North Region include No. 19 St. Johns (6-4, 6-1); No. 24 Pinon (6-4, 4-3); No. 36 Valley Sanders (3-5, 3-4); No. 37 Many Farms (2-9, 2-5); No. 40 Hopi (2-8, 2-5); No. 41 Greyhills Academy (2-7. 2-5); and No. 44 Alchesay (2-8, 2-5).

The 2A Conference Play-In is scheduled for October 30 at the high seed. Teams finishing 9th through 24th in the statewide power rankings will play in the Conference Play-In.

The Rock Point Lady Cougars are ranked No. 9 in the statewide power rankings. Rock Point is 10-2 overall and 8-0 in region action.

1A teams are No. 14 St. Michael (8-3, 6-2); No. 16 Red Mesa (6-6, 5-3); No. 17 Shonto Prep (6-4, 5-3); No. 27 Red Valley-Cove (4-6, 2-4); No. 34 El Capitan (2-11, 0-8); and No. 36 Fredonia (0-9, 0-6).

The 1A state tournament begins on November 2 with the Sweet 16 at North High School. The quarterfinals is scheduled for November 2 at North High School. The semifnals will take place at North High School on November 3. The state championship game is scheduled for North High School on November 3.
