The Perry Pumas are looking to stay hot this week with a matchup against the Boulder Creek Jaguars on Friday.

Perry, which started the season with a tough loss to Pinnacle, has ended up in the winning column every game since. Currently, the Pumas are 4-1 under head coach Preston Jones.

Boulder Creek, led by head coach Anthony Casarella, sits at 2-2 on the year. The last time these two teams met was November 3 of last year for the first game of playoffs.

This scenario will be different. In the middle of the season, the Jaguars are still looking to hit their stride while the Pumas remain optimistic about the season and what challenges lie ahead. “So far, we are very good talent-wise, we just have to fix a couple things on the offensive side and the defensive side of the ball to be the team we want to be this year,” said Perry senior running back Jalen Young.

Young has been a threat to every defense that has tried stopping him this year. This season he has 477 rushing yards on 48 carries, averaging 9.9 yards per attempt.

The Boulder Creek defense will have to try and hold off junior Perry quarterback Chubba Purdy. Filling in his brother’s shoes, Purdy has compiled 17 passing touchdowns on the season and has completed 85 passes for 1,290 yards. Purdy,  is averaging 258 passing yards per game.

Perry football is staying humble and mentally strong, no matter the opponent, according to senior running back Jordin Sweatt. “We just take it one game at a time staying locked in and focused so we can go out there and do what we need to do,” said Sweatt.

Boulder Creek will have the home field advantage for the third time this season. The two teams meet Friday night at 7 p.m. in Anthem.
