Former Pinnacle standout Marissa Schuld named National Softball Player of the Year by FloSoftball.
Marissa Schuld pitched and hit Pinnacle to the 6A state softball championship this past spring with a 4-0 victory over two-time defending champion Hamilton. Schuld struck out 14 batters and gave up only two hits in that title game. Schuld also came through with her bat, hitting 2-for-4 with a home run.
A University of Arizona commit, Schuld was named Arizona Gatorade State Player of the Year for the second straight year, approaching the accomplishment set by former Canyon del Oro and Arizona All-American Kenzie Fowler. Fowler was named Arizona Gatorade Player of the year in three consecutive years from 2007 to 2009, earning Gatorade National Player of the Year honors in 2008 and 2009.
Schuld batted .574 with 16 home runs and 57 RBI. Schuld finished 11-1 in the circle with a 0.74 ERA and 151 strikeouts in 76 innings of work.
Schuld also earned Premier Girls Fastpitch All-American honors.
