The season opener at Apache Junction features an intriguing matchup with Gilbert Campo Verde. Max Ragsdale was the coach at Apache Junction until leaving two years ago to start the program at Campo Verde. The Coyotes played its first season of varsity last year and reached the independent school championship game. It begins in Division III against Apache Junction, which made the playoffs last year but only have four players with varsity experience returning. The Prospectors have a new coach, Justin McDonald, after head coach Rich Milligan stepped down to coach the freshman team. New coach McDonald says he wants to open up the offense – at a school known for running the ball a majority of the time.
