North Canyon's Tyrees Moulton Announces College Decision

November 7, 2017 by Gabby Rivas , Arizona State University

Arizona's top sprinter has announced where he will go to college.

North Canyon’s Tyrees Moulton verbally committed to the University of Miami on Monday.

“I decided that Miami was the best choice because I felt the most at home. I loved the school, but I also really got to know the coaching staff and my future teammates, and they made me feel like I can play a role on a very good team,” said Moulton.

Moulton is one of the fastest sprinters in the nation, with the seventh quickest 400-meter sprint at 47.15 seconds.

Moulton also has the No. 1 returning time in Arizona in the 400m, the No. 2 time in the 200m, and is No. 11 in the 100m. He also holds records at North Canyon High School in the 200- and 400-meter dash, and his relay team broke the 4×100 record.

Jacob Kluch, North Canyon’s athletic director, commented on Moulton success.

“He’s one of our track studs. A great student and athlete as well as a great guy. He deserves this.”

In his announcement, Moulton thanked his track coach, Airabin Justin. Moulton thanked him for being an extraordinary coach and believing in him even when he didn’t believe in himself. He also thanked Justin for pushing him to strive for excellence.

“From coaching Tyrees over the years, I knew he would be special if he put his mind to it. I am very proud of all the things that he accomplished, and I am looking forward to watching him grow as a student-athlete and young man," said Justin.

Moulton said that he is very eager for his future at the University of Miami, and he's especially excited about the incoming class that’s coming with him.
