Marcos de Niza senior Joren Davis is now being recruited to play football at the collegiate level.
The 6-foot-2 wide receiver has used his speed and quick hands to attract the attention of Tabor College during the later half of his last season with the Padres.
Tabor College is a smaller university in Hillsboro, Kansas. They compete at the NAIA level in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Davis is a multisport athlete who participates in football and track. Aside from his training with the team, Davis has been working with a wide receivers coach who has helped him elevate his game over the past months.
“He is becoming more selfless,” coach Robert Barnes said. “This last game he had some great blocks, which for a wide receiver is very rare.”
The Padres used Davis to their advantage this season, running most of their major plays through him. He prides himself on making an impact on the team on and off the field.
“(Davis) really motivates us to do better,” senior outside linebacker Joe Chavez said. “He changes the game for us and when we need him he always steps up.”
Now that Davis is receiving interest from smaller universities, he hopes that he will get an official offer soon.
“I am trying to promote myself to more schools, “Davis said. “I put my film on twitter and am just trying to get my name out there more.”
