Mountain view shut out Dobson in a 49-0 victory with a pair of defensive scores to gain momentum early in the first half. 

The Toros defense was able to make Dobson a one-dimensional offense early in the first half by having two interceptions returned for touchdowns by Tate Allen and Alex Talamantes. 

“We shut them out and scored two touchdowns,” Mountain View head coach Mike Fell said. “We’re able to pick that ball off I think that kept them from wanting to throw the ball, so we were able to stack up against the run.”

The Toros offense was able to score 35 additional points behind the arm of junior quarterback Brandon Nunez, who went 8-for-13 with 192 yards and two scores. 

“I didn’t really see the safeties over the top; I just saw man-on-man coverage” Nunez said. “I just trusted my guys and gave them the ball and it just worked out pretty good. Linemen gave me enough time. I just got the balls to the receivers and they were making my life easy.” 

The Mustangs offense couldn’t get anything going with only 116 yards of total offense. Quarterback Nicolas Saro threw 18 passes and completed 10 of them for 29 yards and a pair of interceptions, and leading rusher Issic Gomez had eight carries for 33 yards. 

“Saw a lot of things tonight that I didn’t like,” Dobson head coach Pete Wahlheim said. “When the going gets tough you find out a lot about a lot of kids so you know what, we’re going to show up tomorrow and go back to work and that’s how we have to approach it.”

Mountain View was able to establish a running game early to get momentum which allowed the passing game to excel and make the game out of reach before halftime, while the defense held Dobson scoreless.

"I’m proud of our boys. I would say this is our best game offense and defense wise coming together and working together good. Offense played well and defense played well,” Nunez said.
