The kills just kept coming over and over and over, literally, and there was nothing Phoenix Christian could do to stop it. Hayley Meshay was the best player Thursday night, and she stuffed the stat sheet with a game-high 16 kills to lead Arizona Lutheran to a win over the Cougars.

The Coyotes dominated the Cougars in straight sets (25-15, 25-14, 25-11) behind Meshay, who lead the way while hitting .636 and connecting on 72.7% of her kills.

For the Coyotes, the game was the icing on the cake of a bittersweet day. The team enjoyed a win on Senior Day, meaning it was the last home game for the five seniors on the Coyotes roster. Head coach Brad Bode paid his respects to his players by starting all five seniors at home for the last time.

“Homecoming week is always a special match, Senior Night especially,” said Bode. “I got five seniors here and I love them to death, they performed very well tonight, and I’m going to miss them next year.”

Meshay’s performance was complemented by her senior teammates Hailey Pedersen who hit .500 on the night, and Bekah Stahmann who tacked on four kills of her own.

It was Meshay, Pedersen and Stahmann, all standing at 5-feet-9 inches or taller, who stagnated the Cougars offense and overwhelmed their defense with their height and ability to smother the net.

Arizona Lutheran’s big three also accounted for five of the Coyotes' six blocks on the night, showcasing their effort on both sides of the ball.

The Cougars struggled to find a rhythm all game, and they never collected consecutive points that would have gained them the momentum needed to make a run at the Coyotes. Instead, the Cougars found themselves in deep holes early on in the sets which proved to be too steep a hill to climb.

“I was pleased with [our] effort tonight, and I was pleased with the commitment our girls made to the disciplines that we’re working on,” said Cougars coach Terry Sutter. “At the end of the day, ALA was a much better team tonight … we just played a better team tonight. That’s all.”

Although the Cougars struggled to place in their division this season, the upside for this team, according to MeiLing Milgrim, is that they are very young that featured only two seniors in their starting lineup.

With a year of experience under many of its young players' belts, Phoenix Christian expects to be competing atop the division next season.

For the Coyotes, Thursday marked the last of three games in three days. The team has five days off until its next match, and it is a rest Bode says his team has well earned after winning all three games.

With this win the Coyotes improve their overall record to 23-7 and their division record to 7-1, trailing only behind Scottsdale Christian Academy (28-3 overall, 7-0 in division play). The Coyotes will hit the road to face off against the Eagles next Tuesday in Scottsdale in a battle of the two divisional titans.
