McClintock’s girls swim team kept their undefeated record, winning Thursday’s tri-meet, while the boys fell to the Queen Creek Bulldogs.

The female Chargers finished the team’s senior night with a score of 142, dominating both Queen Creek’s and Westwood’s scores of 84 and 98, respectively.

The boys finished the meet with 120 points, out-swimming and diving Westwood’s 66 points, but were just shy of Queen Creek’s 138 points.

“The goal obviously was to finish the season undefeated,” Coach Melissa Ripley said. “Our girls step up and they get the job done. They’ve done it meet after meet.”

With both the boys and girls coming into the tri-meet 5-0, excitement on the deck was high.

"It was a fun meet,” Ripley said. “We’re in our brand new pool and it’s very fast.”

Junior swimmers Olivia Murillo and Danielle Pope, both members of the 200 medley and the 200 freestyle relay, contributed to the team’s win, but are now focused on the upcoming Charger Invitational.

“I want to do my best for my team,” Murillo said. “I want to support them and keep a positive attitude.”

The team will be practicing both the weekend prior to the meet and during fall break, with Ripley asking those who are going away to find a pool and workout.

“I take it one meet at a time,” Pope said. “(Ripley) keeps us focused on the meet that is happening.”

The McClintock Chargers' boys swim and dive team finished the season 5-1 and the girls 6-0.

Over the next few weeks, the team will host the Charger Invitational and Tempe City Meet. The Chargers will then focus on the state competition held at Skyline on both Nov. 3 and 4.
