Kayla Subbert is dreaming of continuing a volleyball career at the collegiate level.
In one year, she will wake up in Sacramento.
The senior middle hitter at Red Mountain (4-2) is committed to Sacramento State University, looking forward to growing as a player and getting an education.
“The school is beautiful, the coaches and girls were so welcoming, but the deciding factor came down to the coach staff and the strong program that they built,” Subbert said. “After committing, it was so satisfying knowing that all my hard work had paid off.”
Subbert is the second player in Red Mountain’s volleyball program to go Division 1 since 2012.
“What motivated me to play at the collegiate level was my overall love for the game,” Subbert said. “I knew I didn’t want to stop playing after high school, so I continued to push myself to be the best player I could be.”
With a total of 196 kills in her junior season, Subbert is striving to finish off her senior season on a high note.
“She brings skill to our team through her offense,” senior Jen Vesco said. “Not only do her skills excel, she is also able to build up our team’s excitement level at any point of the game.
Subbert was named captain for the 2017-2018 season.
“Kayla aspiration to succeed on the court is not only motivating to me,” Vesco said. “But it is motivating to the entire program who looks to her as a role model.”
