Greenway wins big over Washingotn

The Greenway Demons and their high-powered offense defeated the Washington Rams 55-7 in Friday night’s Class 4A non-region game at Washington High School.
Greenway (4-0) started the game with a strong running attack. Running back Parker Reeves broke for several runs for more than 10 yards on the Demons’ first two possessions, but he left the game early with a leg injury.
“He got rolled up on, and we think it’s a bad ankle sprain,” Greenway coach Ed Cook said about the injury, adding that he is hopeful for Reeves to return soon.
Backups Will Hood and TJ Murphy stepped in and kept the ball moving, both on the ground and receiving out of the backfield.
Fullback Brody Jones also had several key carries for the Demons, including two touchdowns, one of which put the mercy rule into effect in the fourth.
“We get a lot of reps in practice,” Cook said. “We’re always repping kids. We play a tempo offense, and we always have to give kids a break anyways, so that’s why our backups are OK today.
Without Reeves, Greenway’s main attack was from the air.
Quarterback Tyler Duncan threw for five touchdowns. He also rushed for another touchdown.
On the receiving end of two of Duncan’s touchdown passes was tight end Caden Howen-Hughes.
“I trusted him, watched film, and knew what we had,” Duncan said of his chemistry with Hughes.
Washington’s defense that kept it in last week’s contest against Moon Valley was not as strong Friday. The Rams struggled with tackling and frequently let Greenway receivers get open in the defensive backfield.
The Rams (0-4) were without starting cornerback Felix Bedah for most of the game. Bedah was injured early and returned for only a few plays.
Washington’s offensive woes continued this week as well, as it fumbled the ball twice inside its own 20.
“(We have) to try and get better,” Washington coach Tim Mayfield said. “Whether it’s tackling, blocking, things like that. We had some key injuries so we’ll see what they are tomorrow and go from there.”
