Six Mountain View seniors played their final home game on Friday afternoon. They made their coaches, parents and fans proud. And kept postseason playoff hopes alive at least for a few more days.

Senior pitcher Paula Alapizco tossed a four-hitter and five fellow seniors added  contributions in pacing a 10-1 victory over Westwood in a game with postseason implications for both schools.

Mountain View (14-15) entered the day 25th in the 6A power rankings and Westwood (20-11) a spot higher at 24. The 24th spot normally gains a berth, but it appears the Metro Region champion --either Trevor Browne (28th) or Cesar Chavez (31st) -- won't finish among the top 24. All region champs earn an automatic berth to at least the play-in round. If that happens one of them bumps the 24th team, meaning 23rd is likely to be the final spot open to play-in game qualifiers.

Alapizco was sharp in every inning but the third when she pitched out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam. Her final line along with the four hits was three walks and nine strikeouts. The only blemish was a solo home run in the sixth inning by Westwood shortstop Stacia Seeton, her 17th of the season.

Alapizco's senior teammates -- Natalie Burley, Sarah Chapin, Jennifer Vickman, Tauney Mack and Corina Rascon -- didn't shy away from tangible contribution and did so throughout the contest. Rascon had the best day at the plate going 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.  Mack delivered two hits and an RBI and Burley collected two hits and two RBI from the leadoff spot.

Chapin picked up two hits and figured in a three-run rally in the fifth with a double. Vickman didn't have a hit, but reached base twice and played flawless defense in center field that included a catch with her back pasted to the fence in the sixth and sliding grab in the seventh.

Sophomore shortstop Kenzie Fox checked in at 3-for-4 and junior Taylor Hilton went yard with a two-run shot in the fourth.

Both teams have one game remaining on Monday (April 24). Mountain View visits Mesa High (35th in power rankings) and Westwood is at Red Mountain (11th power rankings).
