BOYS

1A SEMIFINALS

NFL YET 77, RED MESA 53: No. 2 Eagles (28-2) rallied from a small first-quarter deficit by outscoring the No. 6  Redskins, 24-7, in the second quarter and went on to rout Red Mesa at Prescott Valley Event Center. NFL Yet plays Gregory School for the 1A title on Saturday at 1 p.m. at PVEC.

Tyraill Carrethers scored 21 points to lead NFL Yet, which won its 14th game in a row. Teammates Zion Castro (13) and Shekeedren Bryant (11) also scored in double figures. Jordan Simpson led Red Mesa (21-8) with 16 points. Sherwin Benally had 10 points and Willson Simpson and Garrett Benally chipped in nine each for the Redskins.

GREGORY SCHOOL 61, VALLEY LUTHERAN 50: A strong first half paced the Hawks (29-1) to win over the Flames (25-5) at PVEC. Gregory School took control with a 19-9 lead after the first quarter and were only briefely threatened in the final period when Valley Lutheran cut the margin to 53-48. Addison Mort led Gregory School with 18 points and Nick Rosquist tallied 13 (11 in the second half). Sebastian Quintana added 11 points. Valley Lutheran was led by Cameron Key with 15 points. and Nasir Luman with 11.

2A SEMIS

ALCHESAY 64, SAN CARLOS 46: The Falcons (33-2) dethroned last year's state champion Braves (24-4) behind 24 points from center Harley Upton before a packed house at PVEC. Alchesay faces Gilbert Christian on Saturday at 5 p.m. for the championship at PVEC.

Alchesay raced to a 33-19 halftime lead  and maintained a double-digit margin most of the rest of the way. Raekwon Cosay added 13 points and Tyrek Cosay 8 points for Alchesay.

John Cutter led San Carlos with 14 points and Leo Pechuli came off the bench to tally 12. Leading scorer Al Case finished with only 7 points as he battled foul trouble all day. He fouled out with 6:29 to play. 

GILBERT CHRISTIAN 48, PIMA 40: The fifth-seeded Knights (24-5) broke away from a 40-40 tie in the final 1:40 to topple the top-seeded Roughriders (27-3) at PVEC.

Braeden Ferguson's three-point field goal with 1:40 left snapped the 40-40 tie in a game that neither team led by more than five until the final seconds. Caleb Young added two free throws, Miles Lightfoot a basket and Kyle Patterson a free throw to complete the game-ending 8-0 run. Nate Graville led Gilbert Christian with 17 points, 14 in the first half. He fouled out with 2:33 to play. 

Pima was led by the Kartchner brothers. Jarrett Kartchner had 14 points and Justin Kartchner 11.

GIRLS

1A SEMIFINALS

ROCK POINT 47, GREGORY SCHOOL 44: Christanya Begay hit a go-ahead 3 with 3:33 left to play to give the Cougars (19-6) the lead for good as they edged the Hawks (21-8) at Prescott Valley Event Center. Rock Point faces St. Michael on Saturday at 11 a.m. for the title at PVEC.

Roan Tsosie scored a team-high 16 points for Rock Point and Christanya Begay and Ranisha Begay chipped in with 8 points apiece. Gregory School's Taylor Thompson led all scorers with 21 points, 16 in the second half as she nearly single-handedly brought the Hawks from behind against  last year's state runner-up.

ST. MICHAEL 42, FORT THOMAS 41: Ali Upshaw's three-point field goal with 15 seconds left gave the Cardinals 19-4) he victory over the top-seeded Apaches (28-3) at PVEC.

Upshaw sank four 3s in the game, two in the final period and finished with 12 points. Teammate Jalynn Smith led St. Michael with 15 points. Kaitlynn Hinton, who scored 20 points, tied the game a final time at 37 with her final basket. Melanie Kitcheyan's three for Fort Thomas with 2:30 left seemingly put the Apaches in command. Kitcheyan ended up with 12 points.

But Smith made two free throws with 1:35 left and Upshaw got the game-winner on a second-chance three on St. Michael's final possession.

2A SEMIFINALS

LEADING EDGE ACADEMY 63, SEDONA RED ROCK 47: The second-seed Spartans (30-2) in their first year in the AIA after charter association play used a 19-5 advantage in the second period to knock off the No. 6 Scorpions (29-2) at PVEC. Leading Edge will play Valley Sanders for the 2A title on Saturday at 3 p.m. at PVEC.

Prima Chellis  led all Leading Edge with 18 points, 11 in the second half. Ariana Clavell followed with 13 and Halle Price chipped in with 12. Mariah Estrade checked in with eight points off the bench. Hannah Ringel was the offensive focal point for Sedona Red Rock with 16 points, nearly all of them in the paint. Jo Toscano came off the bench to add nine points, all in the second half.

VALLEY SANDERS 57, ALCHESAY 18: The defending D-V champion and fifth-seeded Pirates (24-2) beat the ninth-seeded Falcons (17-10) for the third time this season, this time in most covincing fashion at PVEC.

Valley amassed a 34-14 lead at halftiime and a 23-4 domination in the third period took away  all enthusiasm. Codi Spencer led Valley with 14 points and Nizhoni James added 10. Julianna Burnette paced Alchesay with seven points.
