Game Preview: Mountain Pointe at Xavier Prep
November 29, 2016 by Natalie Dove, Arizona State University
Xavier Prep is hosting Mountain Pointe in a 6A non-conference contest Tuesday evening.
The Mountain Pointe girls are currently 4-1 overall while Xavier's remains perfect (3-0). The Pride played in five neutral tournament games last week, overpowering Corona Del Sol (55-46), Skyline (60-19), Campo Verde (63-24) and North Pointe Prep (79-16).
Its only loss was to Hamilton (60-47). Xavier's victories came against Centrals, Desert Edge and Tucson.
Mountain Pointe's Baily Osmer is a player to look out for during Tuesday's 7 p.m. game. The senior guard is averaging 17 points, 2.4 assists, six rebounds and 3.2 steals per game and teammate Janise Strover, a forward, is averaging 15.7 points and 12 rebounds per game so far.
Both Xavier and Mountain Pointe are each averaging about 60 points per game, so both defenses will be tested. Last year, Xavier and Mountain Pointe finished ranked No. 17 and 33rd, respectively.
The two teams have not faced off since 2014, when the Pride won 63-49.
