Volleyball: Chandler sweeps Central at home
September 21, 2016 by Jeff Sullivan, Arizona State University
The Chandler Wolves volleyball team (9-3) swept the Phoenix Central Bobcats (0-4) Tuesday night, 25-18, 25-17, 25-11, at Chandler High School.
"Always good to get a win," Chandler coach Audra Slemmer said. "But we can still play a lot better. We had a lot of unforced errors and let the other team score too easily. We need to get a lot cleaner moving forward."
The Wolves won easily in each set, but the match should have been over a lot quicker.
The majority of Bobcat points were scored off of Chandler errors.
"I don't really know what it was," Chandler junior Lauren Weintraub said. "There were times where it got really ugly and disorganized. But we were able to make it count and bounce back. This was a good learning tool for us."
Even with uncharacteristic play, the Wolves stars still made their mark.
Sophomore Lily Zegler and junior Danielle Seddon led the way for the Wolves, recording nine kills apiece, with Zegler also leading the Wolves in blocks with five.
For Central, there was not much to celebrate
"They were definitely the better team tonight," Central head coach Joy Fredrick said. "We didn't set our self up for success. Even with their gimmie points, we just couldn't keep up. We'll go back and try and regroup."
Up next, the Wolves travel to rival Hamilton Wednesday night for their first section match of the season.
