Following another double digit loss at home, the Millennium Tigers (10-16) traveled to the Brophy Broncos (14-13) only to keep its losing streak going at five with a 7-0 loss Tuesday.
The Tigers were held scoreless due to two pitchers, Broncos starter Jeff Rula and reliever Danny Fischetti.
In three innings, Rula struck out four, only walked two and allowed zero hits.
In the final four innings, Fischetti struck out three batters and allowed only one hit to complete the shutout.
Fischetti credited his performance to his team, which played good defense and hit the ball well. He said that his team’s performance allowed him to keep his focus, and his catcher, Hunter Parks, did a good job of calling for the right pitches.
As Brophy’s pitchers frustrated hitters during their shutout performance, the Broncos’ offense was efficient, scoring its seven runs on seven hits off of Tigers’ pitcher Tyler Christensen. Three of those hits were collected by catcher Ben Ehmann.
It was very windy Tuesday, but despite the playing conditions Broncos coach Tom Succow said his offense played well, including second baseman Jake Lieberman (2 RBI’s in three at bats).
Brophy’s successful performance came off a Millennium team that was shutout for only the second time this season. Millennium head coach Ryan Bethel said that his team is young, and everything will be OK once his team starts getting bigger and stronger.
