Giselle Juarez scattered five hits and Payton Alsobrooks homered on Saturday to pace No.15 Mountain Ridge to a 2-0 win over No. 18 Corona del Sol in the first round of the Division I state softball tournament at Mountain Ridge HS.

Juarez fanned five and walked two in pitching a complete game. Juarez doubled in two runs in the first inning and Alsobrooks socked her home run in the sixth for insurance. Mountain Ridge moves on to face Pinnacle on Tuesday.

#11 CHANDLER 6, # 22 GILBERT 0: Gabby Baker shutdown the Tigers with an 11-strikeout performance and two-hitter in the Wolves victory over the Tigers at Chandler. Chandler's second-round opponent is Xavier on Tuesday at Xavier.

#13 QUEEN CREEK 6, # 20 MOUNTAIN POINTE 4: The Bulldogs plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth to eliminate the Pride at Queen Creek. Kaylee Joyce tied the game at 4 with a single and Brittany Benavidez followed with the go-head RBI single. Veronica Chavez homered for Mountain Pointe. Queen Creek visits defending state champ Sandra Day O'Connor on Tuesday in the second round.

#17 HORIZON 2, #16 SUNRISE MOUNTAIN 0: Huskies freshman pitcher Morgan Leinstock blanked the Mustangs on five hits at Sunrise Mountain. Peyton Prigge and Sami Wells each had an RBI for Horizon. Horizon moves on to the second round to play at top-seed Desert Vista.

#14 CENTENNIAL 5, #19 BASHA 2: The Coyotes scored all five runs in the fourth inning and staved off the Bears at Centennial. Centennial moves on to face Desert Ridge in the second round.

 #9 PERRY 4, #24 MESA MTN. VIEW 2: Tatum Johnson hit a two-run homer and Hannah Johnson and Piper Lujan added an RBI apiece as the Pumas rallied past the Toros at Perry. Kenadee Rausch went the distance in the circle for Perry.  Perry travels to Red Mountain for second-round play on Tuesday.

#10 BOULDER CREEK 6, #23 LIBERTY 1: Kennedy Wyllie, Kyla Bolen and Brianna Binns combined for seven hits and 4 RBI as the Jaguars topped the Lions at Boulder Creek. Binns was the winning pitcher with six solid innings. She allowed three hits and struck out four. Boulder Creek advances to the second round to face Campo Verde.

#12 CHAPARRAL 11, #21 DESERT MOUNTAIN 0: Chaparral visits Hamilton in the second round on Tuesday.

DIVISION II

No. 19 Buena scored in just two innings, but those frames amounted to 12 runs as the Colts rallied past host and No. 14 Mesquite, 12-7, in the first round of the Division II state softball tournament. Buena spotted Mesquite a 6-0 lead after two innings.

Several Mesquite misplays and three hits  combined to net Buena seven runs in the top of the seventh as the Colts overcame a 7-5 deficit heading to their final at-bat. Eileen Gonzales singled in a run and Brianna Campas capped the rally with a two-run single. Campas, Alicia Habitzreuther had two hits each and pitcher Kyrstan Garcia checked in with three hits. Garcia gave up all seven runs in the first three innings, but blanked Mesquite on six hits the rest of the way. Buena advances to the second round Tuesday against No. 3 seed Sahuaro. Mesquite got three hits apiece from Brittany Holland and CJ Chilton. Holland knocked in three runs and teammate Fallon Dragich hit a two-run homer.

# 9 Desert Edge 12, #24 Coconino 3: The Scorpions blasted five home runs in eliminating the Panthers at Desert Edge. Ambria Dorsey picked up the win scattering nine hits and striking out seven. Dorsey hit two of the home runs. Also homering were Natalie Marchese, Jasmine Martinez and Courtney Espinoza. Desert Edge moves on to the second round to play Tucson.

#23 Casa Grande 2, #10 Greenway 0: Vanessa Olivarez pitched a three-hitter and Kelsey Nolasco and Itzel Soto drove in the game's only runs in the first inning as the visiting Cougars dropped the Demons at Greenway.  Casa Grande advances to play No. 7 Shadow Ridge in the second round.

#22 Cactus Shadows 3, #11 Willow Canyon 0: The Falcons snapped a tie in the fourth inning and got four-hit pitching from Vanessa Gutierrez in blanking the Wildcats at Willow Canyon. Cat Piercer and Taylor Kufner drove in runs to back Gutierrez's pitching. Cactus Shadows moves on to the second round and visits Salpointe.

#18 Sunnyside 9, #15 Verrado 5: The Blue Devils jumped to an 8-0 lead after three innings and went on to top the Vipers at Verrado. Jazmine Ayala, Jazmyne Zepeda and Bobby Jo Robles each were 2-for-4 with two RBI. Ayala pitched a complete game and allowed 10 hits and all five runs. Sunnyside moves on to the second round against Ironwood Ridge.

#13 Prescott 11, #20 St. Mary's 6: The Badgers scored eight times in the bottom of the sixth to overcome a 4-3 deficit and defeat the Knights at Prescott. Xenia Franco's two-run tiriple was the big hit of the inning. Audrey Lockling, Brea Christopherson and Delaney Marshall added two RBI for Prescott. Prescott faces Cacuts in the second round.

#16 Desert View 3, #17 Flagstaff 0:  Reanna Martinez threw a four-hit shutout and struck out eight as the Jaguars clipped the Eagles at Desert View. Lesly Cazares homered for Desert View. Desert View moves on to face Tucson in the second round.

#12 Cienega 7, #21 Skyline 3: Anicela Parra struck out 14 and her teammates tallied six time in the first inning to eliminate the Coyotes at Cienega. Miranda Carley knocked in three runs to lead Cienega. Cienega advances to the second round to face Arcadia.
