Southern Arizona Baseball/Softball playoff notes

DIVISION III BASEBALL
No. 2 Nogales advanced to the second round after beating No. 31 Empire 7-0 in first round action Friday at the Surprise Baseball Complex. The Apaches will face No. 18 NW Christian today at 5 p.m.
Edgar Ambriz collected13 strikeouts and gave up only one hit. Ambriz had a no-hitter going into the seventh. Angel Chavez recorded a three-run blast for the Apaches.
No. 7 Sahuarita beat No. 26 Cactus 4-1 and the Mustangs will take on No. 10 Maricopa at 2 p.m. Nogales and Sahuarita will face each other in the quarterfinals next Friday if they both win.
Saul Escarrega collected his 45th RBI of the season, breaking the school record of 44. Ian Mejia got the win.
DIVISION IV BASEBALL
No. 12 Catalina defeated No. 21 Northland Prep 4-2 in first round action at the Goodyear Baseball Complex. The Trojans will face No. Yuma Catholic today at 12:30 p.m. in the second round.
Alex Phillips picked up six strikeouts for Catalina to go along with two stolen bases and two hits.
No. 13 Benson beat No. 20 Tempe Prep 4-0 and will play No. 4 Apache Junction at 10 a.m. in the second round.
No. 22 Amphitheater beat No. 11 Chinle 12-0 and the Panthers will take on No. 6 Buckeye today at 12:30 p.m.
Sadyel Escamilla had 13 strikeouts and gave up one hit for Amphi.
No. 1 Desert Christian had a bye and will face No. 17 Morenci at 10 a.m. No. 7 Pueblo also had a bye and the Warriors will take on No. 10 Sedona Red Rock at 12:30 p.m.
DIVISION V BASEBALL
No. 21 St. David beat No. 12 Odyssey Institute 6-3 in first round action out at the Tempe Diablo Complex. The Tigers will face No. 5 Santa Cruz today at 1 p.m. at the Maryvale Baseball Complex.
No. 11 St. Augustine beat No. 22 Mogollon 10-0. The Wolf Pack will take on No. 6 Miamia at 1 p.m.
Max Navarrete had 11 strikeouts for the win.
No. 10 Valley Union beat No. 23 Valley Sanders 18-2 in 5 innings.
No. 4 Bisbee had a bye and will play No. 20 San Pasqual at 10: 30 a.m.
DIVISION IV SOFTBALL
No. 22 Amphitheater beat No. 9 Florence 18-1 in first round action at Rose Mofford. The Panthers will face No. 8 Chandler Prep today at 11:30 a.m.
First playoff appearance for the Panthers since 2008.
No. 20 Tanque Verde beat No. 13 Globe 13-0 and will face No. 4 Yuma Catholic at 11:30 a.m.
No. 19 Pusch Ridge out lasted No. 14 Willcox 16-14 and will now play No. 3 San Manuel at 1:30 p.m.
The Lions are 0-2 against San Manuel this year.
No. 5 Pueblo had a first round bye and will face No. 21 Thatcher at 11:30 a.m.
First playoff appearance for the Warriors since 1990.
DIVISION V SOFTBALL
No. 13 San Miguel beat No. 20 Williams 13-0 in 5 innings. San Miguel will face No. 4 Valley Union at 9:30 a.m. at Rose Mofford.
This is the first softball playoff win in school history.
No. 11 St. David beat No. 22 Mogollon 14-10 and will face No. 6 Joseph City at 9:30 a.m.
No. 2 Santa Cruz had a bye and will face No. 15 Fort Thomas at 11:30 a.m.
Tylor Gil is 18-3 from the circle, is batting .645 with 52 RBI, 14 doubles, 2 triples and 14 home runs.
