Brenna Scudellari, Haley Johnston and Tori Eccleston combined for nine hits as Campo Verde bested Chandler, 7-2, in a Division I softball game at Chandler.

Eccleston put Campo Verde ahead to stay with the first of her two RBI in the third inning. Johnston had three hits and 2 RBI and Scudellari rapped out four hits, including three doubles out of the leadoff spot. That made for a fairly comfortable outing for winning pitcher Myka Sutherlin, although Sutherlin exited the game in the top of the sixth after injuring her left ankle in a fall at first base.

Campo Verde coach Joe Delasante is hoping the injury is not serious. Campo Verde entered Wednesday as D-I's No. 8 seed in the power ranking. If the Coyotes can hang on to that spot or move up, they'll earn a first-round bye and won't play at state until Tuesday May 3. No. 9 Red Mountain played a late game Wednesday and defeated No. 7 Perry, 1-0, to add further intrigue to who will finishe in the 7-8-9 spots in the final power rankings. 

Campo Verde won its fourth straight game, which put it in contention for the valuable first-round bye at state. Sutherlin allowed five hits, a walk. two runs and fanned six in her five innings. Tara Love pitched the last two innings.

Chandler, No. 10 in the rankings. will host a first-round game, but the loss will prevent it from moving up to the top eight.

RED MOUNTAIN 1, PERRY 0: The Mountain Lions recorded their first shutout of the season (23 wins in 32 games) in beating the vistiing Pumas.

Mya Davis singled home Alyssa Honneywell with no out in the bottom of the seventh for the game-winner. Red Mountain freshman Hailey Berry outdueled Perry freshman Saige Stutz in the briskly played game.

No. 9 Red Mountain's victory over No. 7 Perry adds further intrigue to who will finish in the 7-8-9 spots in the final power rankings. Those spots appear up for grabs among Perry, Red Mountain and Campo Verde. No. 7 and No. 8 receiver first-round byes.

PINNACLE 6, HORIZON 0: CC Cook struck out 15 and tossed a two-hiitter as the Pioneers tuned up for postseason with their 12th shutout, this one over the Huskies at Horizon.

Jessica Mabrey, Kori Gahn, Nicole Amodio, Kris Slayton and McKenna Adams had an RBI apiece for Pinnacle. Pinnacle, No. 2 in the power-rankings, has a shot to dsplace current No. 1 Desert  Vista if they gained enough ground from the victory. Desert Vista completed its regular season on Tuesday.

Cook and Marissa Schuld have ruled the circle with Cook winning 16 games and Schuld 10. Cook has done the bulk of the pitching the last three weeks. Schuld's last pitching appearance was a one-hitter against Willow Canyon on April 8.

SANDRA DAY O'CONNOR 14, GILBERT 4: The defending D-I champs collected 16 hits and routed the Tigers in six innings at O'Connor.

O'Connor, which started the season a bit slowly, has turned it on the last month winning 12 of its last 14 games since March 28. Included in that streak is a 9-1 victory over Desert Vista two days ago. Grace Lyons went 4-for-4 and Hayley Busby 2-for-4 to lead the Eagles' attack. Lyons and Busby both homered. Sierra Rodriguez chipped in with three hits. Brook Brown went the distance to pick up the win. O'Connor entered play No. 3 in the power-rankings and is assured an opening-round bye.

BASHA 16, MOUNTAIN PONTE 6: The Bears finished the regular season on a high note cranking out 12 hits and taking advantage of 10 Pride errors at Basha.

Trinity Smith drove in three runs and was the winning pitcher for Basha. Teammates Randi Wright and Ashley Jones had three hits apiece. Ilyiana Vacaneri hit a two-run homer to highlight the day for Mountain Pointe. Both schools will play on the road in the first round of the state tournament on Saturday (April 30).

BOULDER CREEK 7, CORONA DEL SOl 5: Kennedy Wylie's triple in the ninth innnig drove in the tie-breaking run as the Jaguars edged the host Aztecs. Boulder Creek was No. 11 and Corona del Sol No. 18 prior to the game. Boulder Creek figures to open at home in the first round of state while Corona del Sol should be on the road. The Aztecs have lost six games in a row.
