The Arizona Interscholastic Association’s legislative council met Friday in Phoenix to vote on a new transfer policy and pitch count limit in baseball.
An amendment to the transfer policy agenda item was proposed by Steve Hogan, Mesa District athletic director, and was passed by a vote of 29-10.
The amendment states that in-state transfers are ineligible at all levels until after the first 50 percent of power point games are played. Transfer students are only ineligible in the sports student athletes participated in during the previous school year.
If a student transfers during the season, he/she will be declared ineligible the remainder of the season.
Athletes can still file hardship appeals if they transfer for legitimate reasons. The board also passed an amendment proposed by the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee that requires pitchers not to exceed a pitch count limit, ensuring they maintain the required rest between outings.
All agenda items that passed Friday will take effect during the next school year, beginning in the fall of 2016.
