Softball: Lynsey Duncan, Aubrey Ledbetter pace all-star victory

Gilbert High's Lynsey Duncan and Boulder Creek's Aubrey Ledbetter took turns Thursday night helping their team to victory in the annual Arizona Softball Coaches Association Senior All-Star game at Mesquite High School.

Duncan pitched two scoreless innings and poked a tie-breaking single for her part. Ledbetter knocked in two runs with a double and ground out as Team Goodman came from behind to score a 6-2 triumph over Team Hehe on a cool, overcast evening for June.

Duncan got Team Goodman, named for head coach Joe Goodman of Mesa Mtn. View, off to a solid start. She pitched the opeing two innings giving up one hit and one walk and left with the game tied at 0-0 after two. Ledbetter made her presence felt in the bottom of the third as her run-scoring double initiated a two-run rally to tie the game at 2. Her double scored Seton Catholic's Hailey Wilson, who led off the inning with a double.

In the fourth it was Duncan's turn, this time at bat. Duncan served a single to left to plate Dobson's Tabitha Hannon with run that made it 3-2 and put Team Goodman ahead to stay. Ledbetter's ground out to first in the fourth made it 4-2.

Duncan, Seton's Olivia Burdick, Cactus Shadows' Katie Paoli and Desert Ridge's Sela Robles combined to limit Team Hehe (Perry head coach Rob Hehe's squad) to four hits. Paoli was the winning pitcher with two scoreless and hitless innings. Three of Team Hehe's hits came and both runs were in the third inning off Burdick. The game's only home run -- a long blast to left by Basha's Brooke Breland -- made it 1-0 Hehe. Doubles by Cactus' Sedona Wyse and Mesa Mtn. View's Kayla Jackson accounted for the other run.

Dani Barthoff and Burdick added insurance runs in the sixth for Team Goodman making it 6-2. Robles' collected an RBI with a ground out and Hannon singled home Burdick witth two outs. Hannon finished with a run scored and RBI in three plate apperances. Burdick added a walk and single in her two plate appearances.

Red Mountain's Alex Wiley (two scoreless innings), Basha's Allie Hancock and Corona del Sol's Sarah McCabe handled the pitching for Team Hehe.
