Maricopa girls hoops coach Burrows heading to Montana

The winds of coaching change among girls basketball programs in the East Valley continues to swirl.
Katie Burrows, who guided Maricopa High to the Division II title in March with a win over Seton Catholic, has accepted an assistant coaching position at Montana State, Maricopa athletic director Mark Cisterna said. Cisterna posted the opening and search for a new coach on Tuesday. Burrows coached one year at Maricopa after assistant stints at St. Mary's and Dobson. Burrows was sought after by several high school programs this spring for openings, including Dobson and Mountain Pointe. She resisted those until Montana State came calling.
Earlier this spring change began with Jeff Kain stepping away at Hamilton and Dobson's Tyler Dumas retiring to go in to administration. Kain's replacement was Mountain Pointe's Trevor Neider. Dumas' spot has been filled by Henry Bribiescas, who left Mountain View after 10 years as Lady Toros' coach. Bribiescas had been an assistant at Dobson prior to taking the reins at Desert Vista and then Mountain View. Nieder's spot was filled by James Nervis, who coached most recently at La Joya.
Bribiescas' replacement just made official recently is Bill Guthrie. Guthrie previously assisted at Mountain View and Seton Catholic. He was head boys coach at Coronado and served most recently as girls head coach at McClintock.
There remains an opening at Desert Vista that came about less than a month ago. No hire has been made to replace Will Gray, who was asked to resign three weeks ago after one season on the job. The Thunder are searching for their fifth coach in five years.
