Dani Docx appropriately enough is set to head east to continue her education this fall at Princeton. Docx homered in the first inning and added two more hits in leading the East all-stars to a 14-3 triumph over the West in the annual Arizona Softball Coaches Association all-star game at Campo Verde High School.

Though no player was publicly named the game's most valuable player, East head coach Scott Hoffmeyer (Basha) bestowed the honor on Docx citing her 3-for-3 day at the plate and solid defense in the middle infield. Docx and the first four batters in the East lineup didn't waste time or pitches in helping their team grab a quick 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Queen Creek's Lexi Valenzuela, Docx, Perry's Brittany Hopper and Red Mountain's Jordan Beck each saw one pitch and hit it off West starter Kenzie Bates (Corona del Sol). Valenzuela reached on an outfield error and Docx followed with a two-run homer to left. Hopper singled to right and Beck blasted a no-doubter to deep left making it 4-0 before West defenders could get their bearings.

East starting pitcher, Red Mountain's Bre Macha, tossed two shutout innings allowing two singles and fanning four. And in case you thought Red Mountain seniors were gone for good, Beck, Macha and Ashley Hill delivered a not-yet message in the game.

Beck's first inning homer was followed by a walk and she finished with two RBI. Macha, the winning pitcher, was 2-for-2 with a first-inning double and three-run homer to dead center in the fourth. Hill came through with a two-run single in the second inning that bumped the East lead to 8-0. She added a double in the fifth. That made the Red Mountain trio's contribution for the night 5-for-7 with 7 RBI and two home runs.

The East outhit the West, 16-6. Hopper added two RBI, Valenzuela scored twice and reached base in all three of her plate appearances and Basha's Brittany Medina and Perry's Laynee Gomez chipped in two hits apiece.Finishing up the pitching chores for the East were Cactus' Morgan Renyer, Perry's Alyssa Barlow and Apache Junction's Kaitlyn McDowell.

No West players had more than one hit. Driving in runs for the West were Greenway's Cheyanne Michael, Gilbert's Mackers Garretson and Gilbert's Dani Nelson. Nelson's RBI came on a long homer to left in the fifth inning.
