Hamilton girls, Carl Hayden boys win Dobson Soccer Classic

The Hamilton girls soccer team ended the 2010 portion of the 2010-2011 season with two invitational titles. Hamilton won the Diablo Classic three weeks ago. And the latest was acquired Friday morning with the Huskies 3-0 victory over Flagstaff to win the Dobson Mustang Soccer Classic at Dobson High.
Now coach Jason Thompson and his troops look toward 2011 and a third tournament title.
"We're two for two and noone has won all three," Thompson said, referring to the next tournament the Huskies aim for, state in early February. "The girls continue to give us max effort. We're able to play a lot of them, adn there isn't a drop in the level of play when we sustitute."
Hamilton (12-0-1), which reached the finals at Dobson with penalty kick wins in the truncated quarterfinals and semifinals Thrusday due to wet fields, scored the only goal it would need 33 seconds in. Hamilton controlled the ball at midfield to start the game and a couple passes later Samantha Weiss fed Rylie Johnson for a goal before anyone could get settled.
Flagstaff didn't present much of a threat offensively, but the Eagles defense kept it a 1-0 game until the final final six minutes of the match. The Huskies Laura Glew drilled home a shot at from the middle top of the goal box t o make it 2-0 in the 74th minute. With a minute left off a corner kick by Rachel Shedd, the Huskies tallied again on an own goal for the final score.
Hamilton resumes regular season play on Tuesday against Gilbert, trying to protect its unbeaten season and more importantly notch another power-point victory.
In the boys title game, Carl Hayden scored twice in a three-minute span of the first half and twice more eight minutes apart in the second half to defeat Mountain Pointe, 4-2.
Eddie Garcia scored the first goal of each half for Carl Hayden (7-1-1) and Amado Sanchez and Williams Rivera scored once each for the Falcons other goals.
Mountain Pointe kept the match close by getting about a 30-yard goal from freshman Danny Meyer just a few seconds after Carl Hayden had gone up, 2-0, in the 18th minute.
Garcia's second goal and Rivera's goal came in the 54th and 62nd minute, respectively, and put the match out of reach. Mountain Pointe's Tyler Daulton concluded the scoring in the 76th minute.
Mountain Pointe (7-6-1), which reached the title game by winning quarterfinal and semifinal games in truncated penalty kick matches on Thursday, finished runner-up in a tournament for the second time this month. The Pride was second to Hamilton three weeks ago at the Diablo Classic. Mountain Pointe beat Camelback and Central in PKs to reach the final; Carl Hayden advanced with PK wins over Millennium and Mountain View.
