Hamilton didn't waste time scoring the first goal of Tuesday's match with Perry, capitalizing on a golden chance in the open field in the first 10 minutes.

The Lady Huskies built on that goal in the second half, adding two more tallies and had their way in a 3-0 win over their district rivals to the east in the second round of the Bill Vanney/Tempe Diablos Soccer Classic at Tempe Sports Complex.

Hamilton improved to 4-0-1 on the young season, playing its fifth match in nine days. The Lady Huskies rebounded from their only non-win that took place Monday (a 2-2 pool play tie with Red Mountain).

"We're a possession team and so far teams playing us have wanted to get into a chaotic game," Hamilton coach Mark Eggleston said. "They want to get us out of our game. If teams get us chasing, that's an equalizer for them."

Perry (0-2-1), which fell to Hamilton in a power-point match on a late goal last Friday 2-1, was good at keeping Hamilton off its game the first half. The Lady Pumas fell behind in the eighth minute when Hamilton's Jamie Salas got loose in Perry's end and was presented the chance to go one-on-one with Perry Carly Sandstedt Salas tapped the ball at the top of the box and it found the net as Sandstedt tried to challenge.

Perry had one good chance in the opening half in the 25th minute with Ashley Dahl missing just wide left from about 25 yards out. The first half the teams battled in midfield for the most part. Kylie Miniefield and Salas got off shots in the final three minutes that were smothered by Sandstedt. Hamilton's defense knocked away a Perry chance in the final seconds of the half as the ball danced near the goal mouth.

Eggleston challenged his team at halftime to go after defenders with the ball, especially its forwards. Miniefield did so quickly to begin the second half getting fouled a yard outside the box. Gabby Martinez was tabbed to attempt the free kick from the left side of the box. She buried it in the left corner of the net for a 2-0 lead with two minutes gone in the second half. 

"We've got three forwards who are so good technically with the ball," Eggleston said of Miniefield, Salas and McKaya Brown. "We want them to attack when they get the chance." Miniefield and Salas have verbally committed to ASU; Brown the same to Arizona. Hamilton's final goal came in the 66th minute. Junior midfielder Renee Terrell found the back of the net from 20 yards out.

Hamilton closes pool play Wednesday against Desert Vista at 4 p.m.  Perry finishes against Mountain View at 6 p.m.
