Chandler is a happening place this weekend as Chandler High plays host to a Friday-Saturday girls volleyball tournament and the annual Chandler Invitational XC meet at Tumbleweed Park. Here's the scoop on those events:

HOP (House of Payne) VOLLEYBALL INVITATIONAL -- Where: Chandler High Schoo, 350 N. Arizona Avenue, Chandlerl; When: Friday 10 a.m. through late afternoon; Saturday 8 a.m. with more pool play and five brackets of semis and finals continuing through the afternoon. Participating schools: Pool A: Gilbert, Youngker, Higley, North Canyon. Pool B: Mesa, Raymond Kellis, Saguaro, Chandler. Pool C: Corona del Sol, Valley Christian, Desert Ridge, Mesquite. Pool D: Highland, Marcos de Niza, Marana Mtn. View, Perry. Pool E: McClintock, Campo Verde, Dobson, Boulder Creek.

CHANDLER INVITATIONAL (cross country) -- Where: Tumbleweed Park, 2250 S. McQueen Road, Chandler; Races: 8:20 a.m. freshmen boys and girls; 9 a.m. sophomore boys and girls; 9:40 a.m. junior boys and girls; 10:15 a.m. senior boys and girls. Format: Top finishing runner for each school in each race scores for his/her team. Examples -- TEAM A runners finish first in each race the team score is 4 -- 1+1+1+1 = 4. TEAM B runners finish 10th in each race the team score is 40 --- 10+10+10+10 = 40. Participating schools (40): Alhambra, Basha, Chandler, Desert Vista, Gilbert, Hamilton, Highland, Ironwood Ridge, Mesa, Millennium, Mesa Mtn.
