Man of Steel

Flying into theaters on June 14, the new Superman film, “Man of Steel” will be released internationally. There are many speculations that “Man of Steel” will be a launchpad to a Justice League film that would be released in 2015.

“I don’t know how Justice League is going to be handled,” said director Zack Snyder in an interview with The New York Times Co. “But ‘Man of Steel’ exists, and Superman is in it.”

“Man of Steel” is produced by Christopher Nolan. The main characters are Superman, played by actor Henry Cavill, and Lois Lane, Superman’s primary love interest, played by Amy Adams. By being cast to play the role of Superman, Cavill feels the pressures associated with playing the part adequately.

“There are a lot of people relying on me to do this well. I gladly accept that responsibility,” said Cavill in an interview with Cineplex. “I don’t let the pressures get to me because that’s going to hinder my performance and therefore, let people down. I choose to ignore the pressure side of it and focus on doing justice to Superman.”

“Man of Steel” will reveal Clark Kent’s entire life story and how he became Superman. The filmmakers are starting from the beginning, as if nothing is known about his character.

“I believe the movie would appeal to anyone,” said Snyder in an interview with Los Angeles Times. “I think that you're going to see a Superman you’ve never seen before. We approached it as though no other films had been made.”

Expected to be darker than previous Superman movies, “Man of Steel” will be similar to the Dark Knight trilogy. It will be modernized and have a more realistic view.

“It’s a more serious version of Superman,” said Snyder. “We took the mythology seriously. I wanted to be sure the movie treated the character respectfully.”

The film has high expectations, due to “Superman Returns” being less successful than producers had hoped. Millions of Superman fans look forward to a comeback.

“I think that ‘Superman Returns’ was a bit nostalgic and romantic, and I don’t think that was what people were expecting, especially in the summer,” said director of Superman Returns, Bryan Singer, in an interview with ComicBookMovie.com. “What I had noticed is that there weren’t a lot of women lining up to see a comic book movie, but they were going to line up to see ‘The Devil Wears Prada,’ which may have been something I wanted to address.”

After an early screening of “Man of Steel,” critics went on to say it could be the best movie of the year. However, some think otherwise.

“This year, with ‘Iron Man 3’ and ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ coming out, I don’t expect ‘Man of Steel’ will earn Best Movie of the Year,” said junior Kevin Apuan. “Superman isn’t popular enough in today’s society to surpass those two films. Beating ‘The Wolverine’ and ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation,’ however seems more realistic.”

This June, head over to theaters to watch the expected “best movie of the year” to see if it will live up to expectations and supposedly launch a Justice League film.
