Why Show Dramatic?

By: Amie Tillyer

On May 10, at 7 p.m., the Red Mountain Advanced Acting students, along with outside drama students who specialize in acting and musical theater, will display their musical and theatrical talents at The Drama Showcase. They will demonstrate the talents they have developed throughout the year, utilizing their practiced improvisation and monologues. The event is a way for students to demonstrate their acting and vocal abilities taking place in the auditorium, for their friends and family. A variety of scenes, monologues, one-acts and musical numbers derived from famous plays and musicals will be performed at the event. As their last high school play performance, Red Mountain senior actors and actresses will say goodbye to the high school stage.

“Many of the participants do this as a way to show off their talents,” said senior and Theater Club President Eric Kirkes. “As an actor, you gain the most experience from taking what you know and have practiced and performing it in from of an audience.”

The theme of the showcase will be relaxed, yet professional. The performers are often inspired by scenes and monologues that the students can directly relate to their personal lives, or from previous shows that have moved them in some sort of way.

“This show is going to be a great opportunity to see the vast talent that lies at Red Mountain,” said Kirkes. “Each and every actor has worked hard to get to where he/she is today. We have a lot of seniors, who have grown in our theatre program, and this show is a final tribute to their success.”

For Red Mountain students, senior citizens and children, tickets will be sold for $5 at the Bookstore, and adult tickets will be sold for $8.
