Bold Colors Heat up Summer

With summer approaching and new fashion trends appearing in popular stores, confusion can result when trying to determine which fashion trends to add to one’s wardrobe.

Summer fashion is all about vibrant colors and bold prints. It’s the time to ditch the dark and heavy winter clothes and aim for something colorful and trendy.

The top summer fashion trends for women include vivid lip colors, smokey eyes, peach blushes, and light foundation. Two great places to find these products are Sephora and Ulta. As for accessories, blocky statement-making necklaces, dangling earrings and sunglasses are great choices to enhance your summer look.

For sheer/see-through pieces, skater skirts, peplum tops, skirts and dresses Charlotte Russe is a smart place to shop.

Small prints, floral prints, intricate patterns, splashes of pastels, timeless black and white, clean stripes, leather and sporty dresses are found at Forever 21 and Papaya. These fashion trends are versatile and easily wearable.

Emerald, a lively, radiant lush green, has been named the Color of the Year for 2013 by Pantone, a global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries. Other hot shades that many will be rocking throughout summer include hot pink, tangerine, lemon yellow and turquois.

Likewise, get ready to bring a bolt of electric neon color to the wardrobe along with neutral and nude colors like tan, light brown, pale pink, seafoam green and beige. Another idea for summer is block coloring, where one can match a solid colored shirt with solid colored pants, skirt or shorts. For example, a solid tangerine shirt with emerald pants, skirt or shorts. Solid-colored effects on clothes, shoes, handbags and other fashion accessories are great for an edgy personalized look.

A summertime trend that has really caught the public’s eye is edgy, short haircuts, such as the bob, pixie cut and pompadour, as seen on popular movie actress Anne Hathaway.

“Summer 2013 is almost wildly structured,” said sophomore Allison Charles. “It has a lot of bright colors and crazy prints.”

For the most part, the summer of 2013 will have extravagant prints and colors, which differs from summer of 2012 with just sheer solid/plain colors and pieces. For more ideas on summer fashion trends, try smart phone app Wanelo or Pinterest.
