Buckle up, because Fast and Furious 6 is coming to theaters internationally on May 24. The five previous Fast and Furious films came out between 2001 and 2011 and grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide. Number eight on IMDb’s (Internet Movie Database), “Top Expected Box Office Hits of 2013” list, Fast and Furious 6 is ready to surpass the success of all previous films.
“The fifth film in the franchise, Fast Five, was the biggest box-office hit the series had seen, bringing in $626,137,675 worldwide,” wrote Heavy.com. “Fast Five earned, in 16 days, what it had taken the previous installment 91 days to bring in, but believe it or not the franchise is just getting started.”
Fast and Furious fans should expect to see a star-studded cast, an international setting – England, the Canary Islands, Glasgow, Scotland and Echo Park in Los Angeles, the rediscovery of a lost love, the introduction of two new characters, an addition of a true, archetypal villain (Owen Shaw played by actor Luke Evans), more bizarre and eccentric cars and MMA fighter Gina Carano joining the crew with more hand-to-hand combat.
“I am excited to see what this movie brings with the exotic places they race at and the fast, unique cars the crew drives,” said junior Tayler Stevens.
Joined by Gina Carano and Luke Evans, the undaunted crew, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Patakyare and Dwayne Johnson, will reunite for a thrilling adventure full of intensified action and stunts.
“We pulled characters who have existed in the first three films and they are all there for different reasons and specialties,” said Diesel in an interview with Rizzo. “It’s a blessing to have all of them in the film because it makes the production so much more fun, probably more fun than I have ever had on a film.”
Because Dominique (Vin Diesel) and Brian (Paul Walker) took down an empire in Rio and left with their crew and $100 million in the Fast Five, they have since dispersed across the globe. Wanted for theft, escaping prison and three counts of murder, the elite team can’t return to their homes. But FBI Agent Hobbs, played by Dwayne Johnson, cuts a deal with Dom: if Dom brings his street-racing crew back together to help the FBI successfully catch a group of skilled mercenary drivers, the crew will be granted full pardons to return home.
“So much of this saga is an exploration of brotherhood,” said Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriquez with Philip Yu from Yahoo! Movies. “It’s really all about that urban street survival tribe kind of vibe.”
Action junkies and Fast and Furious enthusiasts alike wait eagerly to see what unexpected events Justin Lin has in store for them on May 24.
“We can’t wait to provide our fans with the most immersive way to experience the excitement of the next chapter of this high octane movie franchise this summer,” said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Entertainment.
