From 7:30-9:30 p.m. on Friday, May 3, Student Council will bring Paris to the Red Mountain gymnasium. Students will be able to enjoy the ambience created by the romantic MORP dance themed “An Evening in Paris.” It can be girl ask guy or guy ask girl.Tickets can be purchased at the door or in the bookstore for $15.

Targeting freshmen and sophomores, Student Council created the semi-formal dance, MORP (Prom spelled backwards), to give underclassmen the chance to have their own dance, since the conditions for underclassmen to attend Prom are strict (sophomores can attend Prom if they are asked by a junior or senior, and freshmen cannot attend Prom at all). With the success of last year’s dance, Student Council anticipates MORP to be an even bigger success this year.

“This is our second year planning this dance, and it’s helpful to know that we have already done it once,” said junior and Student Council member Daniel Ramirez. “That gives us some tips on what we should and shouldn’t do.”

Though the dance is for underclassmen, Student Council welcomes all grade levels to attend and enjoy the night.

“The dance is for freshmen and sophomores, yet we encourage all grade levels to attend and take advantage of yet another dance to make more memories,” said junior and Student Council Spirit Commissioner Abigail Beall. “Juniors and seniors must be accompanied by a freshman or sophomore.”

From planning the theme to setting up the decorations and tableware, Student Council puts forth time and effort in order to portray the glamour and glow of Paris, “The City of Love.” Also helping to add the special romantic touch, Arizona Wedding Decorator will be in charge of the decorations for this event.

“Student Council does everything from making the tickets to writing the check to the decorators,” said Beall. “We do everything; we plan everything.”

Student Council will be the DJ for the night making sure that everyone present enjoys the music and has a great time. In addition, Student Council is offering free pictures throughout the dance.

“We want for there to be great music, since it is crucial for the dance to be successful and so that word will get out, and we can get more and more students to come the following years,” said Ramirez.

For a memorable dance with a timeless, romantic theme, grab a few friends, purchase a ticket and head to MORP for an evening in Paris. For more information on MORP, contact the Student Council adviser, Ms. Myers in room 142.
