Phoenix Xavier College Prep is searching for a new varsity basketball coach after Chantel Vinson stepped down after two seasons to attend to family obligations in Indiana.

Vinson did a solid job in her two seasons leading the Gators, posting a 36-21 overall record, including a 21-10 finish in 2012-13.

She had replaced former Phoenix Mercury player Jennifer Gillom, who left Xavier to coach in the WNBA. Gillom returned to help Vinson as an assistant last season, but her WNBA duties prevent her from returning to Xavier as head coach.

Meanwhile, Xavier athletic director Sister Lynn Winsor said she already has about 20 applications and probably will get more before beginning the interview process next week.
