AHSCA Hall of Fame class announced; Info needed on coach
April 8, 2013 by Jose Garcia, AZPreps365
The Arizona High School Coaches Association still is around for those who thought it no longer existed.
This year, the association will hold its annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony on May 5. The 2013 class includes Duncan tennis coaching legend H.T. Clothier, who won 13 state titles from 1940-70, and the state’s all-time leader in victories for girls volleyball, Horizon’s Valorie McKenzie.
Clothier will be posthumously inducted. The AHSCA is searching for more coaching information on Clothier to add to Clothier’s plaque.
If you can help the AHSCA, please send me an e-mail (jgarcia@aia365.com).
Former Sunnyslope basketball coach Dan Mannix, who served for 32 years as that school’s boys basketball coach, current Cactus boys track coach Paul Williams, and former Snowflake, Payson and Higley football coach Jim Beall round out this year’s Hall of Fame class.
Eleven AHSCA committee members elect 4-5 coaches into its Hall of Fame every year. In order to be considered for induction, a coach must serve at least 20 years as a coach, 10 of which have to be as a head coach, in Arizona.
They also need to have a winning record and helped promote their sport. We’ll run stories on each of this year’s Hall of Fame members before the May 5 ceremony.
