August 30, 2012 by Game Previews, AZPreps365
The Fountain Hills football team will be looking for its first win and its first points when the Falcons play their 2012 home opener against Scottsdale Christian Academy on Friday night.
The Eagles did not surrender a score in their first game last week, blanking Camp Verde 54-0 at home. Senior wideout Sam Filingame caught a 33-yard touchdown pass and also returned the Cowboys' only kickoff 86 yards for a score. Senior quarterback Luke O'Neill tossed a pair of TD strikes, and junior tailback Zechariah Gatling notched 77 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Fountain Hills started the season poorly by falling on the road to Seton Catholic 49-0. In the game's first minute, the Sentinels scored after running a fumbled punt snap into the end zone on the Falcons' opening drive, and then intercepted a Falcon pass to set up a second TD. Fountain Hills' offense only managed 118 total yards, though senior linebacker Jordan Trulson did notch nine total tackles on defense.
Falcon head coach Jim Fairfield, who's in his 20th season, says that his team had to go back to basics and work on its fundamentals in preparation for the game against Scottsdale Christian. The game will be one of only two Fountain Hills home games scheduled between now and mid-October. Game time is 7pm.
