Mountain View is back in the state championship game for the first time in 18 years.
Brophy is heartbroken once again.
The Toros outlasted the Broncos Friday night, 28-27 to advance to the 6A state title game next week at Mountain America Stadium.
It was a game for the ages. Mountain View quarterback Brady Goodman out-dueled Brophy's Case Vanden Bosch, throwing for 348 yards and three touchdowns on a severely sprained left ankle.
Vanden Bosch was equally unstoppable, passing for 332 yards and three scores rushing for another 74.
The difference was a missed Brophy extra point, but it came down to Mountain View's defense coming up with huge stops late in the game after Vanden Bosch and the Broncos were having their way with the Toros most of the second half.
Mountain View receiver Talan Arnett hauled in two touchdown receptions of 69 and 58 yards in the second half to make the difference for the Toros.
"Coach Litten told us we were a championship team before the season started," Arnett said.
"He pushed us, we proved it."
How it Happened
The first half went back and forth ending up in a 14-14 tie at the break. Vanden Bosch scored first on Brophy's opening drive. Beckham Barney cashed in for Mountain View early in the second quarter. The Toros took a 14-7 lead later in the second quarter when Goodman found Caleb Larson in the corner of the endzone from four yards.
Brophy didn't waste time however. Vanden Bosch led the Broncos to another score in five plays, hitting Daylen Sharper from 24 yards
The second half is when things really got going. On the third play from scrimmage, Goodman found Arnett over the middle and the junior zigged and zagged his way into the endzone for a 69-yard score and a 21-14 lead.
Brophy came right back, with Vanden Bosch finding Nathan Benzie from 18 yards. But thr PAT was missed, leaving the Toros with a one point lead.

The lead didn't last long. Vanden Bosch made it look too easy, driving the Broncos to another score in for plays, Finding Daylen Sharper from 24yards. The Broncos led 27-21.
Record Breaker
Toro receiver Talan Arnett has been a touchdown machine all season. His third quarter TD was his 22nd and broke the 6A state record But the biggest reception of his life came in the fourth quarter on a fourth down and six. Goodman dropped back and threw a perfect pass to Armett down the Brophy sideline, allowing him to score from 58 yards.

The extra point was good, giving Mountain View a 28-27 lead which provided the final difference. The game was far from over though. Brophy drove into Toro territory three times in the fourth quarter, only to come up with no points.
Quotable
"This is really tough. We worked so hard for this since last year. Mountain View is a great team. They earned it. I'm just crushed for our seniors. We will be back." -Brophy Junior Case Vanden Bosch
"We didn't know if Brady was even gonna play tonight. He is the heart and soul of our offense. He's the best quarterback in Arizona and he proved that tonight." Mt. View's Beckham Barney.
Head Coaching
Mountain View will play 14th seeded Centennial next Saturday for the 6A title. Two storied programs and a legendary coach in Richard Taylor.
On the other side, Mountain View's first year head coach
Andy Litten has shown the magic touch, and probably deserves coach of the year considerstion.
He took Horizon to a 5A championship in year one and now he's one game away from doing the same with one the state's most heralded programs.
"What happened with the coaching change last year was tough," Beckham Barney added. "But coach Litten proved himself and all of us who stuck around. But we're not done yet."
