Mountain View continued its mastery of close playoff games Saturday and it happened against a familiar opponent.
Trailing 10-3 late in the fourth quarter, the Toros used a pair of interceptions to come back and beat Highland, 13-10 in a 6A quarterfinal playoff contest at Mountain View.
Kicker Kamryn Halvorsen connected on a 15-yard field goal with 1:05 to provide the winning points.
The No. 4 Toros earned a semifinal showdown next Wednesday at No. 1 and undefeated Hamilton, which beat Mountain Ridge 41-6. No. 3 Marana will host No. 7 Red Mountain in the other 6A semifinal.

It's the second straight year the Toros (17-2) pulled off a close quarterfinal win against Highland to advance against Hamilton in the semifinals. Mountain View won both games by four points before beating Mountain Ridge 10-7 for the 6A title. Going back to last postseason, the Toros are 6-0 in playoff games, five of which have been decided by seven points or less.

"I think we all really rely on eachother and we cabn trust eachother," said Lamoreaux, who has a combined 1,600 yards receiving and rushing this season. "We know we're a second half team and we know we can all trust eachot her to make it happen and that's exactly what we did. With Hamilton, looking back at our scrimmage we know they're a really tough team and we have to run some really good practices these next couple of days to be able to come back and try and beat them."

Saturday's contest was sloppy for both offenses, as the defenses combined for six interceptions, including four by Mountain View.

The Toros led 3-0 at halftime thanks to a 31-yard field goal from Halvorsen. Highland quarterback Alexis Eley then led Highland on a scoring drive early in the third quarter, finding Hadley WIne from ywo yards for a 7-3 lead.

Mountain View's offense continued to struggle, while the Hawks added an Emilee Searle field goal on the first play of the fourth quarter for a 10-3 lead.

MIdway through the fourth quarter, the Toros drove to Highland's eight yard line before the Hawks stopped them on downs. Things looked bleak for Mountain View before Fischbeck came up with a huge interception deep in Highland territory. This time the Toros converted, with Tierra Metcalf finding Lucee Lamoreaux in the corner of the endzone, tying the score at 10 with just under five minutes left to play.

On Highland's next series, sophomore Ginny Wilson came up with another Toro interception, again in Highland territory. Mountain View got to the two yard line, setting up Halvorsen's game winner.

Highland finished the season 13-4 after sweeping the Fiesta region. First year coach Kenny Golladay was proud of the season the Hawks put together.

"It's really tough to lose like that," Golladay said. "But I'm proud of our girls and our coaching staff.  "We were really thrown in at the last second and had few returning starters. The girls didn't want this season to end. I really enjoyed this group."
