Senior night symbolizes one of the last times a team can come together to play as a group, although Mountain Pointe still has at least five games left for this season.

Thirty-two seniors - as well as the rest of the team - celebrated a 43-13 Senior Night win over Cesar Chavez after lots of talk about the highly anticipated game.

Senior running back Jamarlon “Bobo” Otis had three touchdowns for the Pride. Otis is a transfer from Louisianna and has connected easily with the team since his arrival in January.

Otis ran the ball into the end zone for the second touchdown of the game after a Mountain Pointe interception minutes before. Despite leading the Pride football team in touchdowns for the game, he emphasized the support the team gives everyone.

“One game it might be my game, one game it might be the receivers’ game, one game it might be the quarterback’s game,” Otis said. “We just keep each other up over here and want to see everyone succeed.”

After an exciting first quarter, the Pride faced some difficulty with multiple flags, including back-to-back ones in the second quarter which led to Cesar Chavez score.

Pride quarterback Robert Knorr kept control of the field even as teammates went down with injuries. Knorr kept his confidence which led others to step up.

“It’s the next play mentality,” Knorr said. “We just have to control what we can control, focusing on the last play doesn’t help you prepare for the next play.”

So, they did, after leading 27-6 at the half.

“We regrouped at the half and got our composure, talking about wanting to play all four quarters and finish this thing out,” Pride head coach Eric Lauer said. “(If) you don’t rise to the occasion, you’re reduced to your level of training so your training has to be good.”

Regrouping at halftime was important for the Pride to turn the game.

The Pride was able to complete two rushing touchdowns in the third quarter one from Knorr and one from Otis to widen the Pride lead. Pride led 40-6 after three quarters.

The Pride ended the game with a successful field goal.

“Stay in the moment of the player, don't make it personal, make it personal with you executing well and not the competition,” Pride coach Lauer said.

The Pride (4-1) will travel to ALA- Queen Creek (5-0) next Friday.
