Williams Field High School took on Hamilton High School Tuesday in a battle of 6A teams.

The Huskies dominated both sides of the ball and came away with a 42-0 win.

Hamilton wasted no time on offense, needing less than two minutes to score its first touchdown on a pass from quarterback Marlie Phillips to Asia Denson. They carried that momentum with them the rest of the game, going up 21-0 at the end of the first quarter before adding another touchdown in the second quarter.

This was the first meeting between the teams, as they both looked to continue their solid starts. Hamilton, the favorite, jumped out quickly thanks in part to freshman quarterback Marlie Phillips, who was 11 for 12 with three touchdown passes in the first quarter.

Junior Samaya Taylor-Jenkins was a big part of the offense, catching eight passes for about 106 yards and two touchdowns in the first half. She noted how success on offense leads to success on defense since many players on her team play on both sides of the ball.

“It does definitely help because a lot of us play both sides," Taylor-Jenkins said. "If we go down and score and then go down and get a pick, everything adds up.”

Hamilton's defense had two three-and-outs in the first quarter.

The Huskies have not allowed a point their past eight quarters. Last year, the team shutout six opponents.

“Defense has really improved a lot,” said Hamilton coach Matt Stone when asked about the key reason for his team's 3-0 start.

It also helps to have playmakers like Taylor-Jenkins and Asia Denson.

“It's such a relief, especially the yards after the catch,” said Phillips about Taylor-Jenkins and Denson.

Last year, Williams Field went on an early four-game win streak before finishing 7-6. It's currently 1-2 with hopes to get back on track next week against Casteel High School.

Hamilton, a semifinalist last year with a 12-3 record, will host Canyon View and its talented quarterback, Katelyn Jewell, on Monday.
