Salpointe improved to 4-0 in ranking matches after the Lancers held off Tucson in straight sets (25-21, 25-20, 25-22) on Wednesday. Tucson moved to 2-3 on the year.

Tucson won the TUSD Invitational in late August and Salpointe competed at the House of Payne Tournament hosted by Chandler but those early season tournaments have no bearing on rankings or conference standings. The first set of rankings will be released on Oct. 1.

Salpointe built a 20-11 lead in the first set at Tucson but the Badgers went on a 10-2 run to close the gap to 22-21 on a block from Alma Teilon. A kill from Kate Mobley from Caitlin Hurley stopped the damage and Mobley would end the set 25-21 a couple of points later with an ace.

The Badgers went out to a 13-8 lead in the second set but the Lancers responded with a 10-0 run to take an 18-13 lead with Mobley coming up with four more aces to flip the set and Salpointe went on to take the second set 25-20.

Tucson built another lead in the third set but a 12-9 lead on a kill from Kiera Hamilton but the Lancers responded again with an 11-2 run to take a 20-14 lead. Hamilton would later cut the lead down to 22-20 but the Lancers would take the deciding set 25-22.

Hamilton finished with 12 kills with Emilie Rodriguez collecting 22 assists. Teilon added seven kills. Mobley had 13 kills for Salpointe, Ashlyn Quiri had six and Hurley and Brooklyn Burgle shared setting duties with Hurley collecting 14 assists and Burgle added 12 more.

Salpointe will host Cienega (3-1) Thursday night before the program puts on the Lady Lancer Volleyball Classic on Friday and Saturday. Tucson is slated to take part in the tournament.
