Congratulations are in order to the NCAA College World Series champion Arizona Wildcats !!
The team wrapped up the 2012 title, its first since 1986, with a 4-1 triumph over two-time defending champion South Carolina on Monday night (June 25) in Omaha, Neb.
A handful of products from Scottsdale, Phoenix and northern Arizona had a hand in the Wildcats’ 48-17 finish.
*Tyler Crawford, freshman, Peoria Sunrise Mountain. The left-hander was 1-1 with a 3.05 earned-run average and two saves in 15 games. He should see even more time as the Wildcats dig in to defend their title in 2013.
*Vincent Littleman, junior, Page. The left-hander from LeChee, Ariz., pitched in nine games (23 innings).
*Joe Maggi, freshman, Phoenix Brophy Prep. The outfielder-first baseman defied family tradition to become a Wildcat. Older brothers Drew and Beau played at rival Arizona State, but it is Joe who will wear a championship ring. Joe hit .326, starting 45 of his 49 games.
*Konner Wade, sophomore, Scottsdale Chaparral. The right-hander developed into one of UA’s most reliable starters, going 11-3 with a 3.96 ERA in 21 games (19 starts) and pitching 136 1/3 innings. He chalked up an amazing four victories during the postseason, including a 5-1 triumph over South Carolina in the first game of their championship series on Sunday (June 24).
