Skyline High School has taken care of three varsity coaching vacancies this week by hiring new baseball, girls volleyball and girls soccer coaches.
Taking over the baseball duties is Jimmy Richardson, a Mesa High graduate, all-state player and pitcher at UofA. Richardson played at Mesa High in the mid 1980's and is the son of former Mesa High coach Salty Richardson. Jimmy Richardson replaces Mike Johnson, who resigned last month after six seasons at Skyline.
Replacing Nancy Corea for girls volleyball is Tony Millanes, currently Mesa High's boys volleyball coach. Millanes teaches at Mesa High, but will make the commute to Skyline to tend to the girls program.
The girls soccer job went to Michael Gonzalez, a former standout player at Mesa Mountain View. He replaces Dom Scafaria, longtime coach at Mountain View and most recently Skyline. Gonzalez had been the varsity assistant to Scafaria.
Skyline athletic director Greg Schultz said the school is still working on a softball hire and that could come as early as next week.
