No. 4 Tanque Verde beat No. 10 Pusch Ridge 7-2 to move to 5-2 on the year and the Lions are now 7-3. The victory also moved the Hawks to 3-0 in Division III/Section II while the Lions suffered the first loss in sectional play at 2-1.

The top 16 teams will make the state playoffs but the seven section champions in D-III will also qualify and force a play-in phase if a section champion falls outside the top 16 at the end of the regular season. The higher seeds will host the Round of 16 and the quarterfinal round.

Tanque Verde pulled off a couple of close singles matches in the middle courts to claim the match over Pusch Ridge at 5-1 and the Hawks won two of three in doubles for the 7-2 victory. Tanque Verde lost to No. 1 Thatcher 6-3 in the second match of the season and the second loss came at D-II No. 4 Sahuarita two weeks ago. Pusch Ridge also lost to Thatcher 6-3 but the program took D-II No. 9 Salpointe to the limit in a 5-4 loss on Tuesday.

Thatcher is taking part in the Hamilton/Chandler Tennis Invitational this Friday and Saturday along with Chandler, Casteel, Queen Creek., AZ College Prep, Hamilton, Perry and Basha.
